AHPE Presidential Address 2025

Shaping Tomorrow Together: The Way Forward
AHPE stands at an important point in its journey as we move forward with an ambitious yet achievable vision to strengthen and transform health professions education across India. Our five-year roadmap is focused on preparing educators and institutions to meet the rapidly evolving challenges in healthcare education.
As we progress, our core values will remain central to everything we do—guiding our decisions and shaping every program, partnership, and initiative we undertake.
Rather than attempting everything at once, we will focus our first year on establishing robust foundations across eight strategic areas. Let me share what we will accomplish together in the coming twelve months: This is not just a plan; it is our shared contract with the future.
1. Faculty Capacity Building: Launching the Teaching Excellence Pathway.
We plan to conduct three quarterly blended workshops across two regional hubs. Our fortnightly AHPE Dialogues will continue, creating continuous learning opportunities for all members. This isn't just about certificates—it is about building a community of practice where educators learn from and support each other
2. Special Interest Groups: Mobilizing Expert Communities
We had some SIGs in the pipeline and want to explore if they can be revived. If not, we wish to launch three priority SIGs focused on India's most pressing needs such as Competency-Based Education, Interprofessional and Community-Linked Education, and Digital and AI Integration. Each SIG will involve a clear 12-month workplan and deliver at least one practical toolkit or guidance note. We are targeting active members per SIG—experts who will drive context-adapted innovations for our diverse educational landscape.
3. Educational Research: Igniting the Evidence Engine
A Research Steering Group will be established and we plan to define our first national research agenda with input from our SIGs. Our inaugural competitive seed grant round will support exploratory studies addressing specific challenges. We wish to run our first methodology workshop and match novice investigators with experienced mentors. Thus, building research capacity from the ground up.
4. Educational Resources: Creating Our Knowledge Commons
The launching of the Educational Resource Portal with 50 foundational, peer-reviewed resources curated from our SIGs, partners, and programs is on the cards. We hope to establish our Editorial Board and quality review workflows, ensuring every resource meets high standards and addresses regional contexts. With 200 registered users as our first-year target, a repository that grows with our community will be built.
5. Strategic Collaborations: Forging Purposeful Partnerships
We could sign 3 to 4 pilot MOUs with complementary institutions. Our initial co-designed pilots will demonstrate what collaboration can achieve. We hope to build alliances that multiply our impact and reach.
6. Conferences and Dissemination: Transforming How We Share Knowledge
We hope to make conference knowledge accessible beyond the event itself. Every presentation will have a pathway to become a repository resource or publication—ensuring knowledge does not end when the conference does.
7. Membership Growth: Building Our Community
We could launch tiered membership structures including our life membership offer, recruit institutional pilot partners, and appoint 4 to 5 regional ambassadors who will be our voices in untouched areas. Our members-only webinar series and networking events will demonstrate immediate value. Our target is at least 800 more individual members by year-end, representing diverse professions and geographies.
8. Visibility and Brand Building: Amplifying Our Voice
We will complete our brand refresh and launch a redesigned website with member portals.
Our Commitment: Flexibility with Accountability
This roadmap is deliberately designed to be flexible and fluid. We understand that implementation must adapt to ground realities. We hope to track progress and maintain transparency with all stakeholders.
Why This Matters
Every initiative I have described addresses a critical gap in our educational ecosystem. Faculty need structured development pathways. Researchers need support and mentorship. Institutions need quality resources adapted to Indian contexts. We need evidence to guide practice. And educators across our vast nation need to be connected, supported, and recognized.
Thank you for your trust, your expertise, and your partnership in shaping tomorrow together.
